My Special Stays, Jules Knight reviews - My Special Stays 2017

Having recently undergone a super stylish refurb, The Kings Head in Letheringsett is cosy and welcoming. Think reclaimed wooden dining tables, and wall mounted garden tools, shelves filled with books, and a majestic modern cast iron and chrome woodburner set next to rich teal wood panelling.

The comfort here extends to the food, and the Corned Beef Hash with fried quails egg and a home made brown sauce was just what the Doctor ordered. But it’s not all old classics here, there are some interesting and adventurous Asian influences, as well as the fish, meat and game on offer. The Partridge breast in a bean cassoulet was truly tasty, as was the lighter smoked Haddock, topped with an impressively large duck egg. A real effort has gone in to sourcing fresh, local produce, and this is one ‘food trend’ that I hope is here to stay.

The bedrooms provide a comfortable retreat from the hustle and bustle of the restaurant and bar. The Kingsize bed was divinely comfortable and beautifully decorated with a somewhat colonial feel. Newly installed bathrooms with an effective power shower were much appreciated after my long drive from London. North Norfolk is the perfect place to unwind and feels like a proper respite from London life, and as such it’s reassuringly far away!

Grab a pint of Wherry and a book and sink in the antique leather Chesterfield next to the bar, and you’ll feel a warming wave of contentment rush over you before you know it.
